"Lazy", "Put in a real shift" - One man's performance leaves many Newcastle fans divided
Jonjo Shelvey played the full 90 minutes as Newcastle United recorded a 2-1 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
DeAndre Yedlin and Ciaran Clark scored the goals for the Magpies, who recovered from an early deficit with Harry Wilson sending the visitors ahead in the early exchanges.
Shelvey’s performance was the subject of much debate on social media.
And it would be fair to say that the Newcastle fans have mixed views when it comes to the former Liverpool midfielder’s display.
The statistics show that the 27-year-old had three shots and made two tackles, but WhoScored also reveal that his pass success rate was down at 61%, with just 19 of his 31 passes considered accurate.
There is no question that the result was impressive for Steve Bruce’s side, who have now won their last two in the Premier League.
However, Shelvey did not convince all of the fans on Saturday afternoon, as shown by the mixed messages below:
Glad for the points..first half very poor..Shelvey pathetic.
Much improved second half..Shelvey slightly less pathetic.#Nufc— ThOmPsOn. (@garfbobt) November 9, 2019
#nufc excellent today. Carried a proper threat. ASM, Shelvey, Almiron and Joelinton put in a real shift. A good game to watch too. Happy Saturday!!!!

Shelvey wasn’t great like.
The two wingbacks were great.
Shelvey was just ok and least said about his setpiece delivery the better.

Hayden MOTM doing two men’s jobs in there with lazy Shelvey alongside him.

Get in #nufc what a performance! Easily the best I’ve seen us play this season against a really good side. Shelvey’s distribution to the wide men makes us so much more dangerous on the counter. Teams can’t cope with the pace of Miggy and St Maximin.
