Reasons to doubt Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle return & MBS influence over Sheffield United
Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle return
One of the big stories in the Sunday press is the Mirror’s ‘exclusive’ claim that Kevin Keegan could soon be returning to Newcastle United.
Keegan is being considered for an ambassadorial role at St James’ Park.
Newcastle United are on the verge of being taken on by the Saudi Public Investment Fund for 300 million pounds. The Mirror report:
The new owners are keen to generate goodwill and have earmarked Keegan’s homecoming as a high-priority.

Reasons to doubt Kevin Keegan story
However, not all Newcastle fans are buying into the Keegan story.
While there’s still a huge amount of love for Keegan on Tyneside, there are reasons to doubt the Mirror.
Newcastle fan site, The Mag, have raised their concerns on the Keegan comeback:
Any of us could have wrote this story, it has long been talked about that it would be great if / when we ever got rid of Mike Ashley, that Kevin Keegan was brought back to NUFC in some capacity. It is the biggest no-brainer of all.
This same story could have been written and just change Kevin Keegan to Alan Shearer. Indeed, it probably already has been written / made up and published by somebody else, or will be.
MBS influence over Sheffield United
The Premier League are yet to ratify the Newcastle United takeover.
On Sunday, the Daily Mail have questioned whether deal will get the green after raising concerns regarding Sheffield United:
Crown Prince bin Salman, the chairman of PIF, is widely recognised as the de facto leader of Saudi Arabia.
Sheffield United is owned by his cousin, Prince Abdullah bin Musa’ad, who is a more junior member of the Saudi royal family.
The Premier League have strict rules, based on City of London takeover regulations, regarding any influence one club owner or director might have on another club.
Key questions for Premier League considering Saudi Newcastle takeover:
– does Saudi Crown Prince have indirect power to influence Sheff U owner Prince Abdullah, his cousin + minor Saudi royal?
– objections of major PL TV partner Qatar’s beIN SPORTShttps://t.co/mCtzbszuLa

Hatem Cengiz speaks out against the Newcastle takeover
Many are still arguing that the Premier League should stop the Newcastle takeover on the grounds that Saudi Arabia act in breach of human rights.
Over the weekend, Hatem Cengiz, the fiancee of murdered Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi, has taken to social media to raise her concerns publicly. She wrote:
UK authorities and the Premier League should not allow someone like (Saudi Crown Prince) Mohamed Bin Salman – who has yet to face any accountability for the murder of my late fiancee – to be so involved in sports in the UK.
Doing otherwise will greatly stain the reputation of the Premier League and the UK.
I strongly urge UK authorities and the Premier League to intervene to stop the takeover of Newcastle United.

Sadly, some of the responses from Newcastle fans to Hatem Cengiz’s opinions have been downright disgusting.
Some of the replies here are unbelievable, the takeover will happen in due course but some people need a reality check

So sorry for what you have been through. Please can I apologise on behalf of the NUFC fan base for those commenting here who I think may not know what has happened. We will as a fan base try to educate each other and celebrate the club, without celebrating Saudi atrocities
