"Don't feel happy" - Many Chelsea fans voice concerns about news involving five players
A number of Chelsea fans have been voicing concern over seeing their players develop injuries while on international duty, after the Blues shared that five had been named in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad.
The Three Lions will play their final two Euro 2020 qualifiers later this month, and can secure their place at next summer’s tournament with one point taken against either of Montenegro or Kosovo.
In search of the point needed, Southgate has named Chelsea quintet Ross Barkley, Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori as part of his plans.
Hudson-Odoi had given Chelsea an injury scare during the October international break, when the forward was spotted with an ice pack on his thigh after England’s Under 21s thrashed Austria 5-1.
The same international break also saw Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah withdraw from the U21s squad through injury, just weeks after James returned from an ankle problem.
Everton’s Fabian Delph also developed a muscle issue while with the senior England squad in October, and missed the Toffees’ first game back after the break.
England hosting Montenegro at Wembley on November 14 will be the 1,000th senior men’s game for the Three Lions, with players celebrating the occasion by wearing shirts featuring their unique legacy number denoting when they made their debuts.
Should either feature, Barkley will wear 1196, Abraham 1227, Hudson-Odoi 1242 and Mount 1243, while Tomori does not yet have a designated number as he is yet to make his international debut.
Here are some of the messages shared from Chelsea fans to news that five of their players had been included in Southgate’s plans…
